We assumed reels would keep winning on reach. Turns out carousels quietly outperformed on save rate, and save rate is now weighted heavily in feed distribution.

Everyone assumed reels-vs-everything was over. Reels win, carousels legacy. Then we ran Q3 numbers and got confused.

The surprise

Across 8 test accounts posting evenly (2 reels + 2 carousels per week), carousels quietly beat reels on save rate by 3.1x. Meta reweighted save rate in July 2026 — saves now contribute to feed and Explore distribution far more than in Q2.
